I just had to

I went back to visiting the house before work.  I had to; it was driving me nuts not to see it in person.
I immediately noticed that my front door now has color

The color is better than I thought it would be- I mean really those tiny swatches they give you leaves much to be desired.

I also noticed that my portico is still missing but my foyer window has been trimmed out.  Not quite sure if I like the extra trim

I would have been happy with just a glance from the outside until something caught my eye as I was heading back to the car

Why is that board loose?  If you look closely at the first pic I posted you will noticed that the right side is nice and flush but the left side.......  I went back through my pic gallery and right there on February 7th, the exact same thing.  So this says to me a couple of things:  glad I am hiring an inspector because I definitely glossed over that one AND when the hell are they going to notice and fix that??   Scrolling even further back, this board wasn't as bad prior to installing the columns but pic after pic it has gotten progressively worse. What are we waiting on? My missing portico?  And to think I was slyly chided about visiting the house so much.

  1. I already told my construction supervisor I would be planting a lawn chair across the street and watching every bit of the build. I just don't understand on house after house they screw something up and say they will fix it later. I'm sure the guy doing it knows it's screwed up as he does it, so why not fix it right then. I just don't understand.

  2. Is it loose or has it not yet been painted? Looks unpainted to me. Of course I thought they used synboard for all the exterior trim which is a PVC product that should not be wood-colored in the first place. Personally I would have cut the front board 2" longer so it covered the end-grains on the two side pieces.

    1. No- I went back to my pics gallery and the first picture I have of the base of the portico, was dated 12/10/14. It has always been white(so this may be the synboard)- and it was flushed on that pic. So the board is definitely loose. It only started to appear this way AFTER the columns were installed and it appear to get worse with the addition of the downspout.

  3. Also, why did they run the downspout down along that beautiful column? Seems it could have been pushed back at the end to run along the edge of the house? I know those guys take the easiest route for them also. Am I wrong? What are your thoughts? JW cause these are things that can be fixed NOW before you close. :)

    1. I have to check the positioning of the downspout. The problem seems to have gotten worse after it was place there.I think the idea was to have it braced there for support since the only purpose of this downspout is for the run off from the portico- and judging by the pic there really seems to be no other place to put it. So we have to talk to our PM to come up with a solution- because right now, I can see service calls in my future.
